From birth details to a print-ready keepsake
The birth stats poster takes the handful of numbers written on a newborn's hospital card and arranges them like a formal birth announcement. You enter the baby's name, the date and clock time of birth, and the city, town or hospital as plain text — there is no list to pick from, so small towns and home births are handled exactly as accurately as big-city hospitals. Below these come weight and length, each with two linked input fields, and finally one short sentence for a welcome message, a blessing or a private note to the child.
Weight and length stay in perfect sync. The moment you type a value in kilograms, the pounds field is recalculated with the standard international factor of 2.20462 pounds per kilogram, and typing in pounds converts back at exactly the same rate, so 3.42 kilograms always reads 7.54 pounds regardless of which box you started from. Length works the same way between centimetres and inches using 0.393701 inches per centimetre. Rounding is applied only to the displayed text, never accumulated across edits, which is why the numbers agree even after you correct a typo back and forth.
Everything redraws the instant a field changes: the canvas is a live 1200-pixel proof, not a static mock-up. The name sits in a large centred serif with a thin rule beneath it, the date, time and place read as a classic announcement block, and the measurements are composed in two balanced rows with small-caps labels. How accurate is the kg/lb and cm/inch conversion?
It uses the exact standard factors: 1 kg = 2.20462 lb and 1 cm = 0.393701 in. Conversion runs on every keystroke and only the displayed value is rounded, so the two fields always agree. Newborn averages are roughly 3.0–3.8 kg (6.6–8.4 lb) and 48–52 cm (19–20.5 in), but the fields accept any sensible value for twins or preemies.
